Jun smiled as her vegetable dumplings found her mouth at the house party she threw. It had been two years since Jun ran away from Lee Chan, and her life had gotten remarkably dull. She found that she loved it. Jun worked hard and finally got her own place. She had a new roommate named Ember who was a tattoo artist in the city. Ember was making a point about men to Lisa, Jun’s co-worker.

Jun thought about what Ember said. Although she had never had a real relationship before, she knew that men took what they wanted, especially if they felt they deserved it. Jun thought about how she got her job and her boss. He hadn’t propositioned her again after that day, but he always gave her a leering look that showed that if she ever showed a second of interest, he’d be sniffing at her door. She had been grateful when he’d gave her the promotion to manager without asking for any sexual favors.

Ember opened the apartment door.

Jun sat upright. He found her. Who was it? Was it Lu? She was frozen in place as she quietly listened to the conversation.

Jun dared to glance back behind her. She relaxed slightly when she realized she didn’t recognize him. It had been two years, though, and Lee could’ve definitely hired new people. She didn’t know if this guy was really a cop or just saying it to get on Ember’s good graces. She turned her head back around and tried to eat her food but couldn’t seem to swallow. Kimora had said there was no escape from Lee.

Ember closed the door behind the man as she let him out. She walked to the couch and sat next to Jun. Jun knew this was going to be an odd conversation. There was no way that Ember didn’t make a connection between the last name and her.

Jun decided the best thing to do was take the excuse that Ember gave her. It was much easier to let people believe what they already wanted to think than to create a lie that would fool them.

Jun realized Lee must be rich enough to do that. She began to panic again. She had been caught, and Jun knew she couldn’t go back to living that way. Jun would rather die. Jun had let her guard down. It had been two years and Lee still wasn’t finished with her. She was afraid he’d throw her back into the group apartment. Or worse. Suddenly, she began to cry.

Jun stood up and went to her room to lie down. She didn’t bother to take her clothes off and let herself take a nap on the bed.

She had to figure out how to leave tomorrow. Jun needed as much money as possible to leave, so she would go to her last day of work and then head to another city. She cried to herself at the idea of having to start over again. Jun had managed to buy a Fake ID, but now she had to hope it was good enough to get her a new job. She drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Jun jumped up, remembering what transpired the night before. She looked at her clock and realized she was a few minutes late for work. Jun changed into her work clothes quickly and walked across the street to the hotel. Jun didn’t travel. She had always been worried about Lee. Now she wished she’d explored the city a little bit more now that she had to leave.

She stood in front of the desk at the hotel, knowing she would leave it forever in a few hours. She sighed loudly to herself. Lisa walked toward her.

Jun blinked a few times. How had he found where she worked? She began to panic but then realized that it wouldn’t help. She took a deep breath, turned around, and smiled.

He looked at her directly in the eyes. She stared as long as she could into his hazel ones before looking away. He cleared his throat.

Jun turned to walk away. She had to leave even earlier than she’d imagined. She began making her way down the hall so she could find her purse and go.

Kimora!? Jun turned around and looked at him.
